Who is pulling your cart?
In network marketing, a lot of people get the cart in front of the horse and wonder why things don’t work out for them.
In our case ‘marketing’ is the cart and ‘prospecting’ is the horse.
So many marketers fail in their marketing because there is nothing pulling the cart. In other words, they look to technology or someone else’s system or formula to make their business work.
What they lack is an understanding of how their prospect thinks.
During the first part of the 20th century some tribes in the South Pacific had their first contact with the outside world. Once the turmoil of that time had gone, the westerners left. To get them to return the islanders built elaborate airstrips with the belief that this would bring back the airplanes. This gave rise to the ‘cargo cult’ legend we know today.
Network marketing isn’t something you should ever have to do on faith. If your marketing isn’t working the odds are that you are approaching it with a ‘cargo cult’ mentality and that you don’t understand your prospect.
When you understand the wants of your prospect, all your marketing works better. When you understand your prospect you’re not just following instructions blindly, going through the motions or hoping that things work out. You’ll know if you are on the right track because your actions will make sense.
When you understand your prospect you won’t get caught in the trap of chasing technology with false expectations. Take blogging as an example. Leaders Club teaches blogging as part of a holistic and balanced approach to the overall marketing picture. It’s not a means to get rich. In fact, statistically less than 1 blog in a 1000 earns the owner more than $20 a month!
And yet, blogging when approached from the perspective of understanding the prospects wants can greatly add to your prospecting success. When you understand your prospect, you’ll not only know how to approach it you’ll also know how much time to spend and what you should write about!
So don’t get too hung up on your cart until you know you have a horse. Carts are important and can haul a lot of goods, yet some of the most successful marketers rode bareback to a full-time income before they even started worrying about their cart! Learn how to prospect – what their wants are, what they desire and how to connect with them and you’ll be making an investment that will deliver great returns.
